The
Philippine government at its worst
|
|

There's
a popular joke nowadays which goes like this:
Magaling ang La Salle, mga congressmen ang alumni...
Ang UP mas magaling, mga senators ang alumni...
Pero ang Ateneo pa rin ang pinakamagaling...Presidente ang na-produce...
kickout pa lang yan!

My question
is...DO THESE SCHOOLS (along with PMA and other prominent schools) REALLY
HAVE SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF?

Most of
the local officials are starting to campaign for the local elections
next year, they are fighting among themselves, trying to get as much
air time and public sympathy as possible. In Pampanga, the governor,
vice-governor and most of the councilors are facing graft charges...in
Davao City, a councilor belonging to the ruling party, spilled the beans
on her partymates who are allegedly going to receive oodles of cash
from the budget alloted for a drainage project...the list goes on...

Majority
of the Philippine legislators are dim-witted. They are very reactive.
When rumors started spreadin through text like the one about Pope John
Paul's death, some legislators, suggested that text messages be censored.
As if that is possible, we do not have the money, we do not have the
manpower and nobody has the technology to do that.
When they were told they their phones might be wire-tapped they expressed
their great outrage but now they practically want to do the same thing
to other people. When they noticed that most of the UP students nowadays
belong to the middle class, they suggested that the standards of UP
Admission be lowered so that those coming from public schools will be
admitted. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
There's also the infamous slashing of the the UP and DECS budget.
Some legislators also suggested that one year be added to high school.
It is not only expensive for the government and the students' parents
but, by prolonging the schooling of the students, they are temporarily
hindered from earning income to help their family.
And who could forget the alleged bribery in the lower house?
Then, there is also those senators and congressmen who are using national
issues to be more visible to the voting public and look good for their
own sake.
Lastly, there's those bills they filed which later became laws which
are very idealistic but can hardly be implemented due to lack of plausible
alternatives and guidelines.

The Philippine
Police is known for being corrupt & incompetent. Instead of
cleaning up their act, they are busy exercising, dieting and trimming
down their waistlines. As if leaner bodies would gain them a conscience.

Philippine
Army tacticians and officers think they are so good by busting an
Abu Sayyaf camp. Unfortunately, the situation in Mindanao have only
earned them a worse reputation.
Instead of shocking the extremists with a surprise attack, they publicized
their every plan of action. It only helped the extremists in planning
their own action. They have underestimated the extremists thinkinng
that they are so good. Sad to say, the extremists, who are smaller in
number, have outsmarted them over and over again.

The
cabinet members also have their own power struggle within their
circle. Some have done nothing for their respective departments but
whine and whine and whine. We have a DECS secretary who did nothing
when faced with a budget cut... a tourism secretary who, instead of
doing a national image damage control, have whined that the mindanao
situation is driving away the tourists...and lots of other secreataries
whose actions and accomplishments I haven't heard of.

And of
course the leader of them all, the great president Erap...need
I say more?
